For ten days this August, ChildFund Rugby Ambassador Lexi Chambers undertook an ambitious challenge: 10 ultramarathons in 10 days, covering more than 322 miles in a non-sport wheelchair, while carrying the official match whistle for the opening game of Women’s Rugby World Cup England 2025.
Setting off from Allianz Stadium Twickenham on 10 August, Lexi battled long hours on the road, fatigue, and the searing strain on her arms and shoulders as she averaged more than a marathon a day. Living with chronic pain conditions, including Complex Regional Pain Syndrome and fibromyalgia, she confronted barriers few can imagine – and crossed the finish line at Sunderland with fans cheering her in.
“This journey was never just about the distance,” Chambers said at the finish line. “It was about showing what’s possible, reminding people that sport belongs to everyone, and raising support for young people who deserve opportunities to thrive.”
Her journey has been captured in a powerful documentary that brings audiences closer to the grit, endurance, and heart behind every mile. It’s not just the story of a record-breaking challenge – it’s a call to action, and a reminder of the power of sport to positively impact lives.
Race to Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 – A powerful journey
The Race to Women’s RWC 2025 shone a spotlight on ChildFund Rugby’s mission as World Rugby’s global Social Impact Partner: to support half a million children and young people to play, lead, and thrive by 2030. Every kilometre Lexi wheeled was a call to action – to back the next generation of leaders and ensure rugby’s global legacy extends far beyond the field.
With the Race completed, the baton passes back to the global rugby community. Lexi has shown what the power of resilience, inclusion, and community support looks like – let’s carry that spirit forward and turn her journey into lasting impact for young people, powered by rugby!
